Sweetgrass Lodge
Sweetgrass Lodge is a space for ceremony and gathering that prioritizes inclusive, safe and appropriate offerings for 2Spirit, Indigiqueer, and LGBTQ+ peoples. We welcome all people seeking accessible ceremony and offerings that heal our relationships with the Land.
Emerging through ceremony, Alyjah Ermine first saw Sweetgrass Lodge at the 2023 Two-Spirit Sundance in Treaty 1. With the guidance and support of their Elders and teachers, Alyjah and their partner Tami Leigh, are seeking to find a physical home for Sweetgrass Lodge in Treaty 7.
The Capital Campaign
You can help grow seed funding for a physical home for Sweetgrass Lodge. Our audacious fundraising goal for 2026 is $1,000,000 (that’s one million dollars!)
The funds raised will be split to cover the costs of providing ceremony space in a temporary location and to start growing a capital fund to purchase land for Sweetgrass Lodge on the outskirts of Otôskwanihk, Treaty 7 (Calgary, AB).
We are over $400,000 as of July 2026.

Questions we are holding
Can buying land be a path towards decolonization?
There is tension between land ownership & being anti-capitalist. Owning land is not Indigenous but the current systems require us to do so initially.
Through a model of co-stewardship, with Alyjah & Tami as residents, this space will be nurtured by community members participating in the care and cultivation of the space.
Working together, we will introduce native plants and work on models of reciprocity with all humans, plants, and animals in the area.
What is the community model for this project?
Alyjah and Tami intend to live on and co-steward the Land this campaign helps them to purchase. This Land will be used for sweatlodge ceremonies, community gatherings, and providing land-based healing and education programming.
It will be a space for collaborative offerings that are grounded and guided by our two-spirit – tastawiyiniwak ways of knowing (the in-between people in cree). We work with those who want to heal their relationship to Land and seek inclusive and accessible ceremony.
How else are you raising funds for capital?
Multiple income streams will support this project, including mutual aid, grants, community partnerships, and income from group training packages.
We are exploring many different financial models for this project and will continue to adapt and shift as we learn more & get closer to our capital campaign goal.
